LOYD STAR — Mississippi’s Youth Turkey Season opened Friday morning. Lincoln County youngster Kiptyn “Kip” Hudson opened the season with a bang and a special bird by 7:30 a.m. Friday.

Hudson’s P-Paw Jerry Freeman said the bird had a double beard. The main bird measured 10 inches and the second beard measured five inches. According to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, about two percent of gobblers have multiple beards. Beards are a modified feather which are more hair like than feather like.

Freeman said the bird had 1 and 1/8 inch spurs. Hudson used a Stevens .410 and shot a load of TSS to drop the bird at 40 yards.
