Severe storm update: 2.5k Magnolia Electric customers without power

BROOKHAVEN — Severe storms have faded to sunshine and singing birds in Brookhaven Friday afternoon. At the same time, thousands of Mississippi residents in Southwest Mississippi are without power.

Magnolia Electric Customers are one of the most effected according to an outage map on the electric provider’s website. Lincoln County has 246 customers without power, 782 customers in Pike County are without power, 1,500 customers in Amite County are without power and 27 customers in Franklin County are without power.

Entergy reports 883 customers in Amite County are without power as of 3:05 p.m. and 112 customers in Pike County are without power.

NWS Jackson issued a flood warning for the Pearl River area near Monticello in Lawrence County following the storms. Minor river flooding is occurring there and could persist until Tuesday. The river was at 23.9 feet Friday morning and at 24 feet water starts to flood low lying areas of Monticello according to the NWS office.

Residents should “Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles,” the NWS warns.

Pike County is under a severe thunderstorm watch until 7 p.m. tonight.
