BROOKHAVEN — It might be spring but the temperature will look like the dead of winter Monday night and Tuesday morning. National Weather Service in Jackson issued a freeze warning for Lincoln County as the low will plunge to 30 degrees.

Anyone who has planted tender plants might want to take steps to protect them from the freeze. The frost and freeze conditions could kill any crops, vegetation or other sensitive vegetation.

Temperatures will drop tonight until they get below freezing around 1 a.m. Tuesday morning. It will be until 9 a.m. that the temperatures bounce back. Tuesday’s high is 68 degrees. The low Tuesday night is 38. Temperatures should steadily increase throughout the week to be more like warm spring weather. There is a slight chance of rain Thursday.

It is not uncommon to have a freeze before easter arrives. A combination of the extended drought conditions and a late freeze hurt mast production of oak trees and other mast producing trees last year.
