BROOKHAVEN — The bunny hop is coming to Brookhaven Easter weekend as a new chamber of commerce event. Shoppers will have a chance to visit Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce 24 participating retailers for a fun weekend of shopping and potentially prizes.
The bunny hop event will start March 28 and run until March 30 in Brookhaven. Customers who hop and shop around town have a better chance of winning great prizes. An official bunny hop card can be picked up at any of the participating retailers.
Shoppers who visit 10 stores have a chance to win a spring gift basket, 15 store visits wins a chance of a gift basket and $50 to a store of your choice and all stores visited would enter a chance to win a gift basket and $100 to a retailer of your choice.
No purchases at the stores are necessary to punch the card. Katie Nations, Program Director for the chamber, said shoppers can bring their punch card to a drop box at the chamber office by April 3 to enter. Winners will be drawn and contacted on April 4th.
“I’m looking forward to hosting more promotional events such as this throughout the year,” Nations said. “Brookhaven and Lincoln County are unique in the fact that we still have so many small, locally owned boutique style shops. We hope you will join in on the fund and visit each of these retailers this weekend! Meet some of our new shop keepers and visit with old friends as well.”
Downtown Shoes owner Jan Douglas said she is a huge supporter of the Bunny Hop event and is excited for the promotion. She said hopefully they will have new clients shop and check out a new clothing section.
Her preparation for the Bunny Hop will start Tuesday with advertisements on social media and Facebook Lives. She will have drawings for prizes and discounts.
“I just want everyone to have fun. We will have discounts and we will try to have the Easter bunny,” Douglas said. “All the stores donated something for the gift basket drawing. Each basket will be worth their while. I love how everyone is working together.”
Douglas said the Easter season is usually busy at her shop as kids get new shoes for Easter Sunday. She added it was almost like Christmas with the excitement in town.
Nations said Douglas has helped plan the Bunny Hop. Douglas said she hopes the event will be the first of many more.
“We are hoping to expand it and profile our businesses,” Douglas said. “We can do more stuff like this throughout the year to do more for the community and work together.”
