BROOKHAVEN — A total solar eclipse, estimated to be around 80 percent totality in Southwest Mississippi, battled through cloud cover Monday morning. Glimpses of the eclipse peaked through the clouds over Brookhaven.

Students at Brookhaven Elementary School and Mamie Martin watched the eclipse against the adversity of overcast skies and rain threats. The rain held off long enough for classes to view the event.
