The simple things

Published 12:32 pm Sunday, April 14, 2024

Hi, all! Just a thought to help start your weekend.

I like simple things. That doesn’t mean I want to keep everything easy and that I don’t appreciate a challenge. Not at all. I just love the simple things.

Simple things are quite often the best things. The smell of a newly-opened bright red rose. The sunset shining its colors across the horizon. The children laughing at who knows what. The occasional neigh of the horse. A parking space close to the store, but also an invigorating walk from far across the lot. Sitting with a friend on a cool evening on the porch. Watching stars twinkle. The soft nuzzle of a dog’s cold wet nose. Time spent with my family. Easy-to-cook recipes. Warm biscuits with butter.

I could go on and on, but I think you’ve gotten the picture. The pretty animal you see posing for my photo belongs to my parents. Even simpler, she is basically my Dad’s. She loves and adores him and believes her lot in life is to look after and protect him. When she’s not busy, she’s enjoying the simple life stretched out in the sunshine in their yard or crunching on yet another dog biscuit that I’ve slipped to her.

Her name is simple, too. She is Lady. Just Lady. Granted, she might not always act like one. But I don’t always act like the Christ-follower I claim to be. Yet, that’s my name. And it’s just that simple. I follow Him. Therefore, I am a Christ-follower. I am a Christian. I have never deserved, nor did I earn, that title. It was given to me by the One Who loves me most.

Lady’s name was given to her by the one who loves her most. They make a great pair.

I pray that my God and I show the world the same love that Lady and “Poppa” do for each other. How simple is that?! Join us in the simple life. Ain’t nothing like it!

Just a thought. ’Til later.
