Ledger continues to fight

LOYD STAR — A little boy, who should be out on the T-ball field kicking up dust, hitting baseballs and sipping on a cool Capri-sun, is fighting for his life. Ledger Smith, the son of Caitlyn Smith and Reid Smith, is a native of Loyd Star and was diagnosed with Leukemia on May 19, 2023.
He is just four years old and was supposed to undergo chemotherapy this week but has faced complications with not having high enough platelet counts according to updates from the family. This round of chemotherapy is the second treatment of five in this phase.
His mom shared an update on Facebook that an echo scan found a blood clot in his heart on his chemoport and the little boy was admitted to the ICU Wednesday.
His aunt Ashley Freeman Hudson pointed to Isaiah 41:10 for comfort in a Facebook post. Isaiah 41:10 states “fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Readers can help Ledger the most by praying for him and his family during this time. His “P-Paw” Jerry Freeman said they are getting some platelets into Ledger with an IV.
“Right now we are praying for his platelets to get up,” Freeman said. “We need all the prayers we can get.”
Ole Brook Kids, a new pediatric clinic in Brookhaven, wrote that one of Ledger’s all time wishes through Make-A-Wish is to meet WWE star Seth Rollins. People can donate to Ole Brook Kids Wish Hero through the Mississippi’s Make-A-Wish foundation website.
We will provide updates as we can.
