BROOKHAVEN — Officers are trying to capture a man who shot at police investigators in Brookhaven Thursday afternoon. No officer was injured in the shooting.
Brookhaven Police Chief Kenny Collins said they are searching for Kriston Ramsey. He said officers tried to sneak up on him at Jackson Square Apartments on North Jackson Street when they got in a tussle over a rifle.
“They were fighting over it and it went off. We are looking for him now. He is believed to be in the woods,” Collins said. “He has on brown shorts, no shirt and a red bandana on his leg. We believe he might be injured.”
Collins said the man was wanted on a felony warrant from the Lincoln County Sheriff office for stealing a vehicle.
People reported there was a police presence by Mamie Martin Elementary School this afternoon. Brookhaven School District Superintendent Roderick Henderson said he has been in contact with Collins during the incident and said the law enforcement presence was a precaution.
“He told me they are looking for a suspect in the area. The officers were there as a precaution,” Henderson said.
At this time there are no impacts to after school traffic according to Henderson.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop M said they were initially called to help but the call was canceled for them and referred any further questions to Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
