BROOKHAVEN — Mississippi State FIre Marshal’s Office gave an update on its nearly two month investigation into the Stahl-Urban Fire Tuesday. The historic building in Brookhaven was destroyed by a fire on February 26.

According to the Mississippi State Fire Marshall’s Office, the Stahl-Urban fire is ruled to be “undetermined,” meaning the exact cause was not able to be determined. The SFMO states this is due to the extent of damage.

“Vagrants were living in the building and surveillance video did not capture anyone around the outside,” SFMO stated.

The Mississippi State Fire Marshal Office investigation of the fire started on February 29. The process is methodical and details about the specific investigation could not be revealed but The Daily Leader was able to share what the process is generally like. Officials did not explicitly state the investigation was completed.

Stahl-Urban lost its Mississippi Landmark designation due to the fire. The City of Brookhaven owns the property and plans to clean up the charred rubble of the once vibrant textile manufacturing plant.
