Staying alive: Bobcats advance in individual state tennis tournament

OXFORD — Bogue Chitto Head Coach Chase Wallace said four of the eight Bobcats who qualified for the individual state tournament were left standing at the end of the day Tuesday. Wallace added that one of their players had to pull of a logistical trek to play tennis and baseball.

Autumn Ramshur and Kyndra Quinn defeated the girls doubles pair from Clarkdale 6-4, 1-6, 10-4 Tuesday morning. They turned around and beat a doubles pair from Tupelo Christian 4-6, 6-4 and 12-10. Ramshur and Quinn will play in the semi-finals of the Class 1 State Individual tournament.

Jax Leggett and Andrew Merrell defeated a boys doubles pair from Union 6-0, 6-2. The boys defeated a Tupelo Christian boys doubles pair 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the semi-finals of the Class 1 State Individual tournament.

Wallace said Leggett got to Oxford at 2 a.m. Tuesday morning after pitching in a game two win over Scott Central Monday night. He got back to Bogue Chitto Tuesday evening after playing a couple of matches to help the Bobcats beat Scott Central in game three of the playoff series to advance to the next round. Leggett will be back in Oxford Wednesday morning.
