Severe storms could threaten Monday

BROOKHAVEN — Severe thunderstorms are in the forecast for Lincoln County Monday morning. The National Weather Service warns flooding and damaging wind gusts are the hazards with the line of storms

Isolated severe storms are possible into Monday morning with damaging wind gusts reaching 25 mph. Hail is also possible up to a quarter in size.

Lincoln County could see the line of severe storms roll through between 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. A tornado can not be ruled out although southern Arkansas and northeastern Louisiana are at the greatest risk for tornadoes.

NWS Jackson also forecasts a potential of 2-3 inches of rain to fall in a short three hour window. This could lead to localized flash flooding particularly in low lying areas. Brookhaven had a decent downpour of rain Sunday afternoon.

Monday is forecast to be a heavy rain day with 90 percent chance of rain for Lincoln County. Rain chances could continue into Monday night and Tuesday night at a 30 percent chance.
