Wesson Garden Club attends 95th convention

Some members of the Wesson Garden Club recently attended The Garden Clubs of Mississippi, Inc. 95th Convention, “Pearls, Petals and Plants.” The convention was April 16 and 17 at the City of Pearl Municipal Complex. 

“We are so excited about our awards. We received multiple awards with combined ap-plications, three-first place awards, three-second place awards and three-third place awards,” said Club member Cherry Head.

WGC also received first place at the State convention for the Louise Goodwin Highway beautification award, along with a $50 prize. WGC won first place for a medium club, and overall winner for Roadside Beautification at the Deep South Garden Clubs, Inc. (Regional).

The WGC youth received multiple awards as well from Garden Clubs of Mississippi, Inc. one-first place, two-third-place, and two honorable mentions for Smokey the Bear poster contest, Poetry contest and sculpture contest. The WGC youth also received one honorable mention in poetry at the Deep South Garden Clubs, Inc (Regional in-cludes six states). 

WGC also received a nature grant for $200 to assist with planting pollinator plants at Wesson Attendance Center.
