Funeral services for Mr. Jimmie D. Gillis will be on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at Brookhaven Funeral Home in Brookhaven, MS at 4:00 PM with burial to follow in the Easthaven Cemetery. Bro. Greg Warnock will be officiating the services with Brookhaven Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM.

Jimmie Gillis, 94, of Brookhaven, MS, moved on to his Heavenly Home on April 28, 2024 at Diversicare Nursing Home in Brookhaven, MS. He was born on January 15, 1930 in Moreton, MS to Aaron E. Gillis and Bonnie Tolar Gillis.

He was a Deacon and long-time member of First Baptist Church in Brookhaven, MS. Mr. Jimmie coached Little League Baseball in Lincoln County for many years. He was the official scorekeeper of Brookhaven High School Basketball for 19 years. He coached pee-wee football at Brookhaven Academy. He was the official scorekeeper at BA for 19 years and a cook for over 30 years. He was a 56-year member of Brookhaven Exchange Club. Mr. Jimmie enjoyed his many years as a funeral director at Brookhaven Funeral Home.

He loved his daughters, his mother Bonnie and his beloved wife for over 50 years, Vera. He loved his 5 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron and Bonnie Gillis; his wife Vera Mae Brown Gillis; daughter Rhonda Smith; sisters Barbara Kern and Jackie Price; and his brothers Billy Gillis and Aaron L. Gillis.

Survivors include his daughter, Vicky Smith (Weldon); grandchildren, Lacey Zumbro, Dustin Smith (Leah), Marcie Tapper (Shane), Heather Prisock (Jacob) and Ryan Smith (Bridget); great-grandchildren, Dawson, Baylee, and Paxton Zumbro; Harley Wallace (Eli), Rocco and Cooper Smith; Kaitlyn, Mallory and Cayman Tapper; Braden, Chloe, and Jentezen Prisock; Ella and Emma Smith; 1 great-great-granddaughter, Finley Wallace; his sister, Peggy Gillis Smith; son-in-law, Danny Fred Smith; and a host of family and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at Diversicare Nursing Home for their love and care of Mr. Jimmie.
