BROOKHAVEN — Lincoln County District 3 Supervisor John David Hart invited residents to gather on the front steps of the Lincoln County Courthouse for the National Day of Prayer this Thursday, May 2, at noon. The theme for 2024’s National Day of Prayer is “Lift up the Word — Light up the world.”

This year’s theme is based on a passage from 2 Samuel Chapter 2:29-31, “For you are my lamp, O Lord, and my God lightens my darkness. For by You I can run against a troop, and by my God I can leap over a wall. This God—his way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; He is a shield for all those who take refuge in Him.”

National Day of Prayer was officially started in 1952 when congress passed a Joint Resolution which was signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. President Ronald Reagan amended the resolution to place the date on the first Thursday of May in 1988.
