Estimated 2.4k Magnolia Electric customers without power in two counties

BROOKHAVEN — Magnolia Electric crews have made headway on restoring power to customers in Lincoln and Lawrence Counties but have further to go. Severe storms with strong winds knocked out power across the county but Magnolia Electric’s customer base was hit the hardest of all the power companies.

Nearly 3,000 Magnolia Electric customers in Lincoln County woke up to no power this morning. The number has been whittled down to 1,700 customers in Lincoln County without power. Lawrence County has 803 Magnolia Electric customers without power.

Entergy has whittled its customers without power down to 28 in Lincoln County and Southwest Electric has their’s knocked down to 196 customers without power. Over 1,000 Southwest Electric customers in Lincoln County had no power this morning. Additionally, Southwest Electric reports 767 customers in Copiah County are still without power.

Isolated severe storms loom in the forecast for tonight according to the National Weather Service and could bring more damaging wind gusts. National Weather Service in Jackson has not released any information about straight line wind damage in the area nor potential tornadoes. We will provide updates if they do.

Approximately 2.35 inches of rain fell Monday prior to 4 p.m. More could be on the way although Lincoln County is no longer under a flood watch. A 70 percent chance of rain is forecast for Lincoln County tonight.
