BOGUE CHITTO — Strong winds and severe thunderstorms have not only knocked out power to Lincoln County residents but have also caused damage and flooding Monday morning. The Daily Leader received reports of damage in the southern part of Lincoln County.

One reader reported damage on Cole Drive staging that “Debris and trees are down.” Another stated their neighbors’ trampoline was blown into a cow field and shingles were blown off of their home.

Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency Director Chris Reid said trees are still down in roadways mainly in the south part of Lincoln County. Drivers need to exercise caution while driving. Additionally, several roads across the county are underwater. It is dangerous to attempt to drive through flooded roadways. 

NWS Jackson advises people to turn around and don’t drown if they encounter a flooded road. Drivers are unable to see the road underneath the water which could wash them off of the road, the vehicle could be washed off the roadway.  

Trees were down on Shell Oil Lane, Rolling Meadows and Bogue Chitto Road according to reports from readers. The Daily Leader received an additional report of a tree falling onto a car on US51. 

A reader reported downed trees and structures in Jayess and Topeka in Lawrence County. It is too early for the National Weather Service to report if a tornado touched down there but we will provide updates if they do.

West Lincoln has downed tree limbs on Jackson Liberty according to a reader.

There are reports of trees on vehicles including the truck of a reader on Topisaw Drive near Enterprise School.

We will provide more updates as they come in. Lincoln County is under a flood watch until Tuesday at 10 a.m.

In eight hours, Lincoln County received 1.14 inches of rain Monday morning according to the National Weather Service. Higher localized amounts are possible.
