TOPEKA — Lawrence County Soccer Booster Club started a fundraiser to help one of their own following Monday’s storms. Randy Alfaro, a student at Lawrence County, was injured on Robert Tynes Road.
Monticello Fire Department and Lawrence County Fire Services spent nearly five hours working to rescue the teen after a tree pinned him in a home. Mandy Wilson, president of the soccer booster club, told The Daily Leader they had started a fundraiser for Alfaro.
“Firefighters had to cut through miles of fallen trees and debris and carry their equipment for more than half a mile in order to get to Randy to begin the work of freeing him,” Wilson said. “Through it all, Randy was in good spirits and communicating with his family and the firefighters. Randy is currently at Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital where he has already completed one surgery on his legs. He will undergo a second surgery this afternoon around 1 pm. Since his family lost their home, and Randy will no doubt have a long recovery, the Soccer Booster Club is seeking donations to help the family with living and medical expenses.”
The booster club is selling raffle tickets for an RTIC cooler filled with summertime goodies. All of the money will go to the Alfaro family. Tickets are $5 for one or $20 for five and can be purchased from any Cougar soccer player with cash, check or digital payment. Deadline for raffle ticket purchases is May 27 with the drawing to be held on May 28.
Donations can be sent to the booster club PayPal account- @LCcougarsoccer or the CashApp account- $LCcougarsoccer and tickets can also be purchased through the digital services by noting “raffle” with the payment.
