WESSON — Copiah County Sheriff’s Office confirmed an armed robbery and subsequent shooting left one victim dead Wednesday morning. The gunman is on the run after leaving the Wesson Truck Stop on I-55.

Copiah County Sheriff Office stated it is currently investigating the armed robbery that occurred Tuesday night. A customer was carjacked, shot and later died at a hospital.

The victim’s car was found a short distance later abandoned. Copiah County Sheriff’s Office reported the offender is not in custody at this time.

More details will be released once video footage is reviewed.

Wesson Truck Stop is at the intersection of Sylvarena Road and I-55.
