Watch: Thunderstorms rolling into Lincoln County, special weather statement issued

BROOKHAVEN — Power was out for customers just south of Brookhaven in Lincoln County Tuesday afternoon. Storms are still in the forecast for this afternoon. 

Lincoln County is under a severe thunderstorm watch issued by the National Weather Service. A special weather statement was issued for Lincoln County until 5:30 p.m. A strong thunderstorm with wind speeds reaching 50 mph was located moving through Franklin County and Caseyville towards Brookhaven and other areas of Lincoln County.

Magnolia Electric reported 401 customers are without power just north of Bogue Chitto in an area around the interstate as of 1:45 p.m. By 3:15 p.m., power was restored to customers. Entergy reports 0 customers are without power at this time and Southwest Electric reports just three customers are without power right now.

National Weather Service in Jackson issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Lincoln County from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Lawrence, Copiah and Franklin Counties are included in the watch. Storms could bring damaging wind gusts between 60 to 70 mph and quarter sized hail. Flooding from high amounts of localized rainfall in a short period of time is also a concern.

Storms could continue Wednesday morning in the area with isolated severe storms and damaging wind gusts.
