Tornadoes confirmed in southwest Mississippi storms, thousands remain without power

BROOKHAVEN — Severe thunderstorms Tuesday and Wednesday have knocked out power to thousands of people across southwest Mississippi. Fortunately, the storms brought cooler temperatures. National Weather Service in New Orleans reported there were two tornadoes in Pike County and Tagniphoa Parish.

A tornado was confirmed to have touched down in Gillsburg and travel northeast to Osyka where it ended. NWS New Orleans reports the tornado was an EF1 which travled 16 miles and had a max width of 275 yards. No one was hurt or killed.

The second tornado was an EF1 which touched down in Kentwood/Lewiston, Louisiana and traveled 5.2 miles. No on was hurt or killed.
