The Mississippi School of the Arts Foundation recently hosted its 10th annual Summer Arts Camp. The camp is for students in eighth-10th grades, and this year 80 campers from across the state participated in an intensive week of arts camp. Students selected two arts disciplines to study for the week where they learn basic techniques and study with MSA arts faculty.
MSA Faculty members taught intensive arts experience through three-hour classes for campers. After studying from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1 p.m.-4 p.m. each day, students participated in nightly residence life activities that included a dance, karaoke, water games, mystery dinner theatre, carnival, dance showcase, and MSA movie night. MSA alumni worked the camp as interns to help students maneuver through the campus and their experiences. The camp ended with culminating performances, and literary journal and art exhibits for family and friends.
Campers chose residential overnight in the dorm or to come each day as a commuter student. The camp is held the first full week of June each year. Scholarships are available by application.
This camp is supported in part by a project grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission.
