Funeral Services for James Earl Smith Sr. of Beauregard are 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at St. Peter Rock M.B. Church in Wesson. Hazlehurst Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Monday, July 21, 2014, from noon until 6 p.m. at Hazlehurst Funeral Home.

Mr. Smith died July 13, 2014, at his residence in Beauregard. He was born on May 2, 1955, in Wesson and was the oldest son of Charlie Lee Smith and Geraldine Harrison-Smith.

Mr. Smith joined St. Peter Rock M.B. Church at an early age. He attended Parrish High School and graduated from Co-Lin High School. He was the owner and operator of J.E. Smith Logging, Inc. until his health failed him.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Alma Jean Smith and Charlie Marie Smith; and mother-in-law, Eva Dixon.

Survivors are his devoted wife of 40 years, Darnis Dixon Smith; three sons, James Earl “Jada” Smith Jr., Darrel Montory “Valencia” Smith, both of Beauregard, and Cory Alexandra Vaughn of Brookhaven; one daughter, Sabrina Nate Smith of Beauregard; two brothers, William Earl “Synthia” Smith of Crystal Springs and Lee Edward “Romonita” Smith of Jackson; two sisters, Brenda “Anthony” Thadison of Brookhaven and Laura Ann “Billy” Hall of Hazlehurst; father-in-law, Melvin Dixon; brother-in-law, Walter Lee “Carolyn” Dixon; two sister-in-laws, Lessie Mae Dixon and Bobbie Jean “Roy” Smith, all of Los Angeles, California; six grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
