Lady Cats win district crown

BOGUE CHITTO – The Bogue Chitto Lady Bobcats captured the district championship when they defeated the Stringer Lady Red Devils 7-2 Monday night.

The Lady Cats had one game plan coming in the ballgame, and that was to beat the Lady Devils and become district champs. The Lady Cats struggled at the plate last night totaling only eight hits.

The winning pitcher was Brooke Myers. She did not walk any Lady Red Devils and no strikeouts.

The losing pitcher was Abby Sawyer for the Lady Devils. She had four strikeouts and seven walks.

BC committed only two errors as a team, and Stringer had two errors. The Lady Devils had a total of six hits as a team.

Stringer got on the board when both Jaime Wade and Elizabeth Barden both got on base with a single apiece. Jaime Wade was able to score when Katelyn Green hit the ball back at the pitcher for a fielder’s choice. Elizabeth Barden scored when Jaime Parker got a base hit out to center field.

Zariah Matthew got on base with a base hit to begin the inning for BC. The Lady Cats left her stranded on base when the next three batters got out to end the first inning.

In the next three innings, Bogue Chitto’s defense shut the Lady Devils’ offense down. The Lady Cats was able to get two base hits out of Alana Nettles and Brooke Myers. Alana Nettles was able to cross home plate to put the Lady Cats on the board.

BC scored another run in the third when Colby Kirkland had a sacrifice fly ball. Zariah Matthew and Christian Black both had base hits in the third inning. The Lady Cats were able to add a run on the scoreboard and take the lead in the fourth inning.

In the fifth inning, the Lady Cats had a base hit by Mallory Allen, but the Lady Cats were not able to get a single run. Kendalen Russell, for the Lady Devils, had a base hit as well. The Lady Cats sealed the deal when they put four more runs on the scoreboard.

The Lady Cats will host Lumberton Tuesday night for senior recognition. Hitters for Bogue Chitto are Mallory Allen, Alana Nettles, Brooke Myers, Christian Black and Baileigh Jackson all had a single apiece. Zariah Matthew with two singles and Karly Leake with a double.

Hitters for Stringer are Elizabeth Barden, Jaime Parker, Katelyn Green and Kendalen Russell all had singles apiece. Jaime Parker had two singles.

JV action: Bogue Chitto 11 Stringer 0

In JV action, the Lady Cats defeated the Lady Red Devils 11 to 0. The winning pitcher was Stevie Montgomery. The Lady Cats took it to the Lady Devils and did not slack up. BC had a total of 10 hits through four innings. There were several hitters for the Lady Cats. Destiny Wallace had two singles. Lineka Blackwell had three singles. Codi Leggett had two singles. Payton Barron had three singles.
