Can you handle walking through one of the oldest buildings in Brookhaven that has been turned in to an asylum on Halloween? The adventure is not for the faint of heart.

Mississippi School of the Arts students have been working for the past three months on the scariest haunted house in Lincoln County. The undertaking is so intense the creators have deemed it inappropriate for children under the age of 13.

MSA Coordinator of School Advancement Jennifer Jackson said students of all disciplines have come together to take on this massive project. Every room is set up by a different group of students and has it’s own theme with in the overall asylum theme Jackson said.

The haunted adventure will be set in Cooper Hall on the MSA campus. This is the only building that has not been renovated, which adds to the horrifying experience.

“It’s really scary this year,” Jackson said.

Jackson said this is the second year the students have held the event in Cooper Hall, but they have been hosting a haunted house for several years.

This has been a student-led project with help from the MSA Director of Facilities, Transportation and Safety Sudie Palomarez. They built the set, decorated and will be acting in at the event.

The haunted asylum will be open Friday from 7 to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 7 to 11 p.m. The cost of admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Jackson said the money that is collected goes toward next year’s haunted house.
