Lady Jackets Roll; Stringer top Enterprise

The Stringer Red Devils and Enterprise Yellow Jackets met on the hardwood Tuesday night as both teams looked for a hot start to their 2014-2015 basketball campaigns.

In girls’ action, it was the Lady Jackets (2-0) who had the upper hand in throttling the Lady Devils 45-12.

In the varsity boys’ game, Stringer dominated the second half in route to an 80-66 victory over Enterprise (0-2).

Enterprise resumes action today as they travel to Pisgah for four games, starting at 4:00 pm.

Enterprise 45, Stringer 12 

Coach Jill Nation’s Lady Jackets jumped on Stringer from the start as they raced to a 12-1 advantage after one quarter of action.

By halftime, the Lady Jackets extended their lead to 29-5 and never looked back as they cruised to victory.

Enterprise was led by Markie Case’s nine points. Courtney Greer and Hannah Kirtfield contributed eight points apiece in the win.

Kenli Simmons scored five points for Stringer in the loss.

Stringer 80, Enterprise 66 

Basketball fans enjoyed an up-tempo game throughout all four quarters as the Red Devils rallied in the second half to overcome Enterprise on their home-floor.

The first half saw the home-standing Yellow Jackets stay in control as they carried a 45-35 lead into the locker room at halftime.

However, in the third quarter the momentum swayed towards Stringer as they outscored the Jackets 29-5 on their way to the 14 point win.

“We really let our guard down defensively in the second half”, said Enterprise coach John Knight. “We must improve on defense moving forward”.

Enterprise was led offensively by four players who scored in double-figures. Dwayne Pendleton fired in a team-high 17 points in the loss. Marvin Butler added 14 points for the Jackets and Jontavious Smith chipped in with 10 points. Jarod Johnson provided a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds for Enterprise.

Sedric Wheaton carried the load for Stringer scoring 27 points in the win.

In the junior varsity boys’ game,  Enterprise came away with a 29-11 win. Cade Feltus powered the Yellow Jackets with 10 points. Austin Carter added eight points for Enterprise.
