Wolfpack netters defeat Holmes

GOODMAN – The Copiah-Lincoln Community College men’s tennis team improved to 4-1 on the season as they defeated the Holmes Community College Bulldogs 7-2 in tennis action yesterday.

The Wolves took two wins in doubles matches as Dwain Perkins and Will Pennington defeated Owen Taylor and Nick Robertson 8-3 at No. 1 and Brandon Nettles and Coleman Carraway blanked Justin Sawyer and Hunter Moore 8-0. Holmes took a win at No. 2 as Dylan Throgmorton and Corey Warren edged Braxton Hinton and Drake Nelson 9-7.

Three of Co-Lin’s five singles matches came down to tie breakers. Will Pennington defeated Nick Robertson 6-3, 2-6, 10-3 at No.2, Braxton Hinton edged Dyan Throgmorton 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 at No. 3, and Coleman Carraway rallied to beat Sam Cain 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 at No. 6.

Co-Lin’s Dwain Perkins handily defeated Owen Taylor 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1, Drake Nelson took care of Justin Sawyer 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6, and in an extra singles match Steve De Cid beat Hunter Moore 6-0, 6-1.

Holmes picked up a win at No. 4 singles as Corey Warren defeated Co-Lin’s Brandon Nettles 6-2, 6-3.

Co-Lin travels to Booneville to take on Northeast on Friday, March 27, beginning at 2 p.m.
