Dumpster Days have officially begun with dumpsters being set up on Monticello Street just east of County Farm Road.

The dumpsters, which were set up Thursday morning, will remain there until Sunday afternoon. Dumpster Days allow locals to dispose of furniture, mattresses, TVs, building materials and similar items.  Personal tires, white goods (refrigerators, air conditioners, stoves) and other large items should be placed on the ground near the dumpster.  No paint, oil, hazardous materials or household garbage can be accepted. No commercial tires or scavenging at the dumpsters will be accepted.

Ronnie Durr, Lincoln County litter coordinator, said Thursday was slow and predicts Friday to be affected by rainy whether. However, Durr said the weather should be great Saturday, with cool weather and clear skies, for residents to bring out their bulky waste.

Durr said that last weekend the hazardous waste collection efforts were successful and have cut down on people trying to dump paint and oils.

Durr also asked that people take care of the dump sites. While there will be supervision much of the time, he asks that no one dump trash on the ground.

“This is private property,” he said. “We have to leave it the way we found it.”

The dumpsters will make an appearance in each district over the next month. Next will be District 2 at Newman Road and Old Hwy. 51 from April 9 – 12. The dumpsters will be at Hwy. 51 and Bogue Chitto Road from April 16 – 19, and Jackson-Liberty Road and West Lincoln Drive from April 23 – 26. The final stop will be at James Case’s store on California Road.
