Funeral services for Jan Elizabeth Smith Busby, of Bogue Chitto, are 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2016 at First Baptist Church in Summit with burial in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Dr. Larry LeBlanc will officiate. Pallbearers will be Mark Wallace, Stuart Hemphill, Ed Able, Robert Lusk, Lee Gill and Rodney Thomas. Jones Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Monday, September 12, 2016, from 9 a.m. until time of services at the church.

Ms. Busby, 63, died Sept. 7, 2016, at her residence.

Jan was born Oct. 30, 1952. She was the daughter of Marshall E. Smith and Olga Stancil Smith.

Jan Busby was a longtime and well-loved member of First Baptist Church in Summit. She loved every member of her Sunday school class and enjoyed spending time with them. She graduated from Wingfield High School and kept close contact with her classmates. She received her bachelor and master degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi.  She was an English teacher for many years for Pike County schools. She truly impacted hundreds of students’ lives. Former students enthusiastically greeted her wherever she went. She continued to tutor and mentor throughout her life. She was an excellent caretaker of her parents and many aunts and uncles.

She enjoyed her days spending time with her grandchildren.  She loved to teach them new things, and they loved their Gram.  She loved her family very much and had close relationships with her cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall and Olga Smith; and many aunts and uncles.

Survivors include two daughters, Julie Busby Lawson and husband, Les, of Summit, and Jill Busby of McComb; granddaughters Caroline and Elle Lawson; and grandson Noah Busby Gunnell.
