Funeral services for Vernie Watts Walker, of Brookhaven, will be Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Brookhaven, with burial to follow in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Jerry Sullivan will be officiating. Brookhaven Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016, from 5  to 8 p.m. at the church and will continue Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016 from 10 a.m. until time of services.

Mrs. Walker, 93, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2016, at Brook Manor Nursing Home in Brookhaven. She was born May 10, 1923, in the Zetus commumity of Brookhaven, to George “Wash” Washington and Ada Smith Watts. She was a homemaker and was retired from The Potter Company in Wesson. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She loved working in her yard, cooking and her church family. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Enoch Walker; grandson, Evan Wayne Walker; sister, Selma Britt; and niece, Linda Fairchild.

Survivors are her son, Gary Walker and wife Pam, of Brookhaven;  grandsons, Corey, Zack and Josh; nephew, Kelly Britt; and a host of cousins and friends.

Pallbearers are Jerry Freeman, Seth Allen, Wayne Foster, Randall Lofton, Kelly Britt and Anthony Smith.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mrs. Walker’s name may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church Building Fund.
