Absentee voting for November’s general election begins Monday in Lincoln County.

The deadline for voter registration is also rapidly approaching. Those who are new to the county or who will turn 18 on or before the Nov. 8 Election Day must be registered by Oct. 8.

“State law requires 30 days prior to election day,” Circuit Clerk Dustin Bairfield said. “That’s why the Oct. 8 deadline is important.”

Ballots can be picked up at the Circuit Clerk’s office on the second floor of the courthouse starting Monday, and absentee voting will continue until Nov. 5. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Voters may also call the Circuit Clerk’s office at 601-835-3435 to request a ballot mailed to their address. The ballot must be notarized and mailed back by the deadline, Bairfield said.

To register to vote, bring a photo identification. If you don’t have one, Bairfield’s staff can make one for you.

Forms for registering can be found at https://www.sos.ms.gov/Elections-Voting/Documents/Voter_Registration.pdf, or they can be picked up at the circuit clerk’s office.

The voter registration and absentee deadlines are both on a Saturday, and Bairfield said his office will be open both days from 8 a.m. until noon.

Voting locations for two precincts have been moved this year. Those in the Pearlhaven precinct must vote at the Bicentennial building at 433 E. Monticello St. rather than the AbilityWorks building. Voters from the City Hall precinct will be voting at the Lincoln County Public Library at 100 S. Jackson Street, and not the Chamber of Commerce.
