Local named president of national corporation

Harold Gary, of Brookhaven, was elected president of the National Rural Rehabilitation Corporation at the annual conference in Tampa, Florida.

He also serves as vice president of the Mississippi Rural Rehabilitation Corporation. This corporation is actively involved in lending money to farmers and ranchers to acquire additional farmland to increase the rural American standard of living.

Gary, who grew up in Webster County’s Springhill community, is a graduate of Mississippi State University and is a retiree from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He is active in civic activities and the Lincoln County Republican Party, where he is a member of the executive committee. He is also active in promoting agriculture throughout the state. Gary is a tree farmer in north Mississippi and promotes proper conservation practices.

He also serves on the board of directors of the Pearl River Basic Development District, Southwest Mississippi Resource Conservation and Development Council and the Forestry Association Advisory Board.

Gary stated that he will be promoting the importance of all phases of agriculture in helping to feed and protect our growing population.

Gary and his wife, Jetty, have two daughters, Carol Gary and Cathy Franck, both of Brookhaven.
