Numerous trees were downed Monday, including at least one on a Brookhaven home, after a severe storm swept through the area.
Southwest MS EPA reported about 1,000 customers still without power in Lincoln County early today. About 675 Entergy customers remained without power.
Entergy reported about 5,000 customers were without power in Lincoln County during the storm.
Magnolia Electric Power crews were out early today working to get service back on for 2,170 customers who are still without power after Monday’s severe storm, said member service director Lucy Shell. That’s down from 9,000 customers without power Monday. Crews worked late into the night and will be joined today by contract crews from Birmingham, Ala., she said.
Copiah-Lincoln Community College offices on the Wesson campus will remain closed today due to a power outage. Offices will reopen Wednesday at 8 a.m.
A tree fell on a house on South Cleveland Avenue in Brookhaven. Owner Mary Ann Smith and her son, Cary Smith, said no one was injured.
They were able to get their car out unscathed, although the rooftop wasn’t so lucky. There’s a hole in the roof over the kitchen, and water is also coming into the dining room and a bedroom, she said.
Hail was also reported with the storm.
In Wesson, a top was blown off a mobile home and trees and power lines were downed, according to the National Weather Service. A shed and two barns were also destroyed.
A chicken house was also damaged and a church was blown off its foundation, NWS reported.
In Lawrence County, trees were reported down near Monticello and in the western and southern parts of the county.
Lincoln County and surrounding areas were under a tornado watch until 8 p.m. and a flash flood watch until 9 p.m. Monday.
Lincoln County Emergency Management Director Clifford Galey said the area saw no major damage, except for the home in Brookhaven.
Statewide, the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency received reports from several counties that have damage to homes and power outages. No injuries are being reported. Nearly 20,000 customers were without power at some point Monday. Entergy reported 11, 042 customers without power and Southern Pine Electric reported 7,329.

Clarke: Trees and powerlines down.
Covington: Homes damaged, trees and powerlines down.
Forrest: Flash flooding and trees down.
Jefferson: Trees down.·
Jones: Trees down.·
Perry: Trees and powerlines down.
Lamar: Trees and powerlines down.
Lauderdale: Home damaged, trees and powerlines down.
Marion: Home damaged, trees and powerlines down.
Pearl River: Trees and powerlines down.
Simpson: Homes and chicken houses damaged near Mendenhall.
Smith: Trees down and power outages.
The National Weather Service will determine if the damage was caused by tornadoes.
