Two Lincoln County schools looking to make a move in the 2A Region 7 standings face off tonight as West Lincoln travels to Enterprise to face the Yellow Jackets.

Enterprise was hoping to make another leap in the standings Friday night against Loyd Star, but fell short 46-33 as they dropped to 9-7 overall and remain in second in the district.

Senior guard Dwayne Pendleton had an off night on Friday as Loyd Star focused its defense to stopping the star guard and holding him in check. Pendleton finished the game going 5-of-14 from the field with 14 points, adding six rebounds as well. It was an off night shooting overall for the Yellow Jackets as they shot 29 percent from the field as a team. It ultimately cost them the game.

Enterprise head coach Shane Adams said after the game any team can go through a cold shooting spell once in a while and they have to just shake it off and move on. They’ll have to move on quickly and get ready for West Lincoln as the Bears come to Enterprise High School looking to make a leap in the district standings as well.

The previous matchup between these two teams came in December in the Lincoln County tournament, where Enterprise got the win over West Lincoln by a score of 49-34. The win gave Enterprise a 3-0 record in the county tournament and gave the Yellow Jackets their first Lincoln County tournament title since 1984. Pendleton dominated the game against West Lincoln with 37 points on 13-23 shooting from the field.

If West Lincoln has any chance of taking down Enterprise, they’ll have to follow the same formula Loyd Star did Friday night in slowing down Pendleton. West Lincoln comes into the game tonight off their first district win of the season, taking down Amite County by a score of 44-26. It was the best defensive game the Bears have played all season holding Amite County to 26 points. The Bears crashed the boards all night long with 33 rebounds for the game.

Freshman guard Karlton Byrd led West Lincoln in scoring with 13 points, going 3-of-5 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free throw line. Junior guard Adam Martinez was next in line with 12 points on the game shooting 4-of-11 from the field.

If the strong defensive presence continues tonight for West Lincoln and they can slow down Pendleton, West Lincoln will have a good chance at catching up to Enterprise in the district standings.

Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.

Lady Jackets vs. Lady Bears

The West Lincoln Lady Bears come into tonight’s matchup on a two-game winning streak, both in district play against Prentiss and Amite County to move to 6-11 overall. It was their best defensive performance of the season Friday night as the Lady Bears held Amite County to only six fourth quarter points and 31 points in the win.

The Lady Jackets of Enterprise come in on an opposite trend, losing two district games in a row against Amite County and Loyd Star coming into tonight’s district matchup. The Lady Jackets stand at 12-4 overall and trail Loyd Star and Bassfield in the district standings.

Both teams have a lot to play for tonight as one team looks to bounce back after tough losses and the other team looks to continue their winning ways.

Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
