Funeral services for Charles Monroe Smith, of Brookhaven, are Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, at 10 a.m. at Gum Grove Baptist Church in Brookhaven with burial at the church cemetery. Riverwood Family Funeral Services in Brookhaven is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 10, 2017, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith, 77, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, at his residence. He was born Feb. 1, 1940. He was a member of Gum Grove Baptist Church where he served as an ordained deacon and retired as a shop supervisor at Gatlin Corporation. He was a District 4 election commissioner for 16 years and loved growing vegetables and sharing with neighbors.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Columbus and Ollie Smith; brother, J.C. Smith and sister, Monell Russell.

Survivors are his wife of 54 years, Bettye Joyce Hutcherson Smith; son, Charles Gregory “Greg” Smith and wife April; sister, Joanna Mathis and husband John and one granddaughter, Gentry Ann Lynn Smith.
