Funeral services for William Earl May, of Brookhaven, were held Monday, July 24, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Brookhaven Funeral Home (Natchez Drive) with burial at East Haven Cemetery in Brookhaven. Bro. Anthony Yarborough and Bro. Ronny Robinson officiated the services.

Visitation was held Sunday, July 23, 2017, from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home and continued Monday, July 24, 2017, from 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.

Mr. May, 93, died Saturday, July 22, 2017, at his residence with his loving family by his side. He was born Jan. 22, 1924, in Brookhaven, to John Sidney and Sarah Dunn May. He served his country in the US Navy and was a deacon of Pearlhaven Baptist Church. He was a retired toll board tech from Bell South. He was a member of the Brookhaven Masonic Lodge #241, York Rite, Scottish Rite, Shriners, the Eastern Star and the Civitan Club. He served as an alderman for four years for the City of Brookhaven. He enjoyed working with his cows, bird watching, traveling and spending time with his family and his church family. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

Preceding his in death were his parents; son, Gregory Thomas May; grandson, Michael Chad May; sisters, Theda May Stephens, Anita May Maples and Freddie May Miller; and brothers, Ernest May, Royce May, Mack May and John May.

Survivors are his wife of 67 years, Edna Merle Entrican May; daughter, Johnnie May Nevels and husband Dwayne, of Brookhaven; sons, William “Billy” May and wife Glenda, of Wesson, Jerry Bert May and wife Donnette, of Arley, Alabama, Jack Anthony May, of Brookhaven, and Donald Eugene May and wife Cheryl, of Brookhaven; sister, Patricia May Harrell, of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Pallbearers are Todd May, Dwayne Nevels Jr., Allen May, Greg May, Trent May and Dwayne Nevels Sr.

Honorary pallbearers are Benny Maples, Jimmy Stephens, Jamie Maples, Mack “Randy” May, Glenn “Bo” Miller Jr., Ronald “Rusty” May, Kenneth May, David Harrell, Joey Harrell and Phil Harrell.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Deaconess Home Health and Hospice, and the staff of Silver Cross Nursing Home.
