1 dead, 1 hurt in double shooting in capital city

JACKSON (AP) — A man is dead and another was injured in a double shooting in Jackson.

The Clarion-Ledger reports police say it happened about 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Authorities say 20-year-old Dalvin Rhymes was killed and another man was transported by private vehicle to Merit Health hospital. His condition was not immediately available. Rhymes was pronounced dead on scene.

Police said based on evidence, the shooting appears to be self-defense. According to the department’s Twitter account, a suspect was questioned and released without charges. Rhymes is Jackson’s 33rd homicide of 2017.
