With turkeys crackling in fatless fryers and people gathering to give thanks with loved ones, everything seems to slow down on the fourth Thursday in November.

So — with Thanksgiving Day just around the corner — it’s a good idea to know when area offices are closing and just how long it will take them to reopen.

In observance of Thanksgiving, The Daily Leader office will be closed Thursday. The newspaper will deliver its Thursday edition Wednesday afternoon.

Here is a complete list of the days public offices will shut down and when they will resume operation.

All local schools are on break this week. Students from Brookhaven Academy, Lincoln County schools, Brookhaven schools, Copiah County schools, Lawrence County schools, Franklin County schools, and the Mississippi School of the Arts will resume coursework Monday.

Since Thanksgiving is a federal holiday, area post offices will be closed Thursday, but postal circulation should resume Friday.

Motorists should take note of the fact that the Mississippi Highway Patrol Driver’s License exam office will be closed Thursday and Friday. They will be back up and running Monday.

Be sure to account for any extra holiday trash accumulation, because Waste Pro will be closed on Thursday. Its usual Thursday route will run Friday, and the Friday route will run Saturday.

In town, the Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce will be closed Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Brookhaven city offices and Lincoln County offices will close Thursday and reopen Monday.

Meanwhile, Copiah County offices in Hazlehurst will close at noon Wednesday and remain closed until Monday. Wesson offices will also be closed Thursday and Friday.

Lawrence County and Monticello offices will be closed Thursday and Friday, and Franklin County offices will close at noon on Wednesday and reopen Monday.

Lastly, no matter where your Thanksgiving travels take you, be sure to account for any extra holiday traffic.
