GULFPORT (AP) — Mississippi police killed a suspect wanted for a January shooting during a four-hour standoff over the weekend.

The Sun Herald of Biloxi reports Gulfport police attempted to arrest Marvin Ray McMillian Friday evening. A department release says McMillian barricaded himself inside a residence when he saw the police. It says negotiators spoke with him for about four hours until he started shooting at officers and they fired back. McMillian died at the scene. No officers were hurt.

The shooting is being investigated by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
