Loyd Star’s Britt takes region XC title again

Freshman Aubrey Britt of Loyd Star went back-to-back on Wednesday with her second consecutive Region 3-2A Cross Country Championship.

Britt took the top spot with a time of 20 minutes, 40 seconds. Britt beat Isabel Leatherman of Saint Patrick, who finished with a time of 21:10.

West Lincoln was the top area team finisher in the field of nine schools, as the Lady Bears captured fourth place. Enterprise finished in seventh place.

West Lincoln eighth-grader Kara Beth Addison (23:46) was the top county finisher behind Britt, as she finished in 12th place. Other West Lincoln runners included seventh-grader Ashland Watts (24:06), seventh-grader Lasadria Stewart (25:02), senior Georganna Allen (26:24), seventh-grader Lari Reed (27:41), senior Emilee Leake (28:00), seventh-grader Lia Price (28:32), freshman Brooke Lewis (29:26) and seventh-grader Chloe Oglesby (29:35).

Junior Marlee Gunnell (24:49) was the top finisher for Enterprise. Other runners for Enterprise included seventh-grader Claire Thornhill (25:16), junior Shauna Hewitt (28:10), senior Callie McCollough (30:04), senior Amber Wyland (30:07), seventh-grader Adelia Nations (33:42), seventh-grader Carmin Banks (34:19) and freshman Autumn Mayatt (34:48).

Freshman Wednesday Warren (33:38) and eighth-grader Charleigh Barras (33:38) also competed for Loyd Star.

In the boys’ race it was St. Patrick who just edged out West Lincoln for first place. The Fighting Irish took the top spot on the podium with a team score of 37 points, followed by the Bears with 39 points. Loyd Star took fourth place and Enterprise finished 10th in the field of 11 teams.

West Lincoln sophomore Tiler Castillo finished in fourth place with a time of 18:03, and he was closely followed by his senior teammate Jonathan Mathis in a time of 18:08. Senior Trevor Murray was also a top-10 finisher for the Bears with a time of 19:08, which put him in eighth place. Freshman Landon Burgess captured 10th place for West Lincoln with a time of 19:29. Senior Tucker Hoeniges of Loyd Star finished in 11th place in a time of 19:33.

Other finishers for West Lincoln were freshman Chase Spring (19:37), junior Ashtin Castillo (19:40), senior Nathan Gary (20:01), freshman Alex Leake (20:35), sophomore Noah Addison (21:42), senior Will Gary (22:02), seventh-grader Carson Temple (22:49), eighth-grader Connor Johnson (26:13) and senior Dalton West (26:13).

Other runners for Loyd Star included junior Stephen Mills (20:22), junior Robert Galindo (20:35), junior Leondre Dodds (21:35), seventh-grader Nathan Mills (22:46), seventh-grader Justin Lovins (27:33), seventh-grader Jackson Bridges (28:53) and seventh-grader Wyatt East (28:59).

Enterprise runners included sophomore Will Harris (22:49), sophomore Anthony Nations (24:24), sophomore Josh Richardson (25:05), freshman Caleb Rushing (25:58), sophomore Ben Ready (26:10), sophomore Michael Kees (27:29), seventh-grader Alex Sales (28:02), junior Jacob Lee (28:38), freshman Austin Brown (28:39) and seventh-grader Harley Moak (35:25).

The 2A State Championship Meet will be held on Monday, Nov. 5 at Choctaw Trails and begins at 3 p.m., with the girls’ race followed by the boys’ race at 3:30 p.m. The 2A awards ceremony will be held at 4:15 p.m.
