Charles ‘Charlie’ Hart

Funeral services for Charles “Charlie” Hart, of Brookhaven, are Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Riverwood Family in Brookhaven with burial at Twin Oaks Cemetery in Bogue Chitto. 

Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018, from 5 until 9 p.m. at Riverwood Family in Brookhaven.

Mr. Hart, 69, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018, surrounded by his family. He was born Jan. 3, 1949, in Brookhaven. He attended Bogue Chitto High School and received an associate degree from Copiah-Lincoln Community College. He was a veteran who served in the Vietnam conflict with the U.S. Army, he returned from his tour of duty to begin a career with Bell South. After years of working in the telecommunications industry, he retired and started his own company, Rough Edge Telecom Consulting.

He loved his employees and colleagues and poured his time, attention and experience into making sure the company was a success for its clients and workers. Family and friends filled his life. He loved spending time with Dolores, his wife of 51 years, at his home, tending to his cows and his garden with her, and with their children and grandchildren. Some of his most enjoyable times were spent on the front porch, talking and laughing with friends and family, and playing the guitar during “picking and grinning.”

He was lead singer for the Crossroads Quartet, a gospel group composed of some of his dearest friends and in which he participated for more than 25 years. He was a Mason and an active member of Bogue Chitto Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school or Training Union for most of the past 50 years. He loved the Lord and spent his life with the singular purpose of seeking and living God’s will in his life.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Bill Hart and Elizabeth “Penny” Smith Hart; grandson, Joseph Charles Libby; sister, Ann Hart Delaughter; and brother Billy John Hart.

Survivors are his wife Dolores Case Hart; daughter, Sharlene Hart Libby and her husband, Wim Libby; daughter, Jenny Hart Carpenter and her husband, Scott Carpenter; son, John David Hart and his wife, Larissa Howard Hart; brother, Tom Hart and his wife, Rebecca Green Hart; brother, Ken Hart and his wife, Vicki Ezell Hart; sister, Kathy Hart Crosby and her husband, Bruce Crosby; brother, Gene Hart; brother-in-law, Mike Delaughter; grandson, Will Libby and his wife, Brianna Alexander Libby; grandsons, John Daniel Libby, Andrew Cartwright, Davis Hart, and Marshall Hart; granddaughter, Brooke Cartwright Dark and her husband, Joseph Dark; and granddaughters, Mary Grace Libby and Faith Carpenter.
