Willard K. Griffin

Retired Chief of Police, Mr. Willard K. Griffin, 80, of Monticello, Mississippi, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019, at Lawrence County Hospital in Monticello. Willard was born Dec. 14, 1938, in Lawrence County to Walter Griffin and Maxine Buchanan. 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2019, from noon until service time at 2 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Monticello, Mississippi, with graveside services following in Monticello Municipal Cemetery. Bro. Michael Smith will officiate the services, with Wilson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Willard served as Monticello Chief of Police for 27 years and Lawrence County Sheriff`s Department for a total of 38 years of service until he retired in 2005. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and friend to many. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Monticello.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joyce Griffin of Monticello, Mississippi; children, Elizabeth Wilson of Monticello, Mississippi; Kent Nations and wife Mary Ann of Sontag, Mississippi, and Gina Naef of Brandon, Mississippi; grandchildren, Justin Wilson and wife Maria of Monticello, Mississippi; Jessica Nations and husband Toby of Monticello, Mississippi; Millaine Hogue and husband Chase of Starkville, Mississippi; Daniel Nations of Sontag, Mississippi; Kayla Naef of Brandon, Mississippi; and Zach Naef of Brandon, Mississippi; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi.
