Enterprise Attendance Center makes a jump in juniors’ ACT test scores.

With the implementation of Jumpstart’s ACT review materials, Enterprise increased ACT test scores across the board for the school’s 11th grade students. Their scores not only improved in each subject, but their composite scores improved as well.

“We saw improvement for several students, with one student jumping up by five points,” Enterprise counselor Kristina Brumfield said.

Math increased by more than 37%, while English made an increase of 44%. Science and reading both jumped by 46%, with composite scores improving by 37%.

The material was presented prior to the February testing date, where the ACT is administered to every junior across Mississippi. Enterprise was part of a group of 22 schools where improvement was seen.

For their students, Enterprise broke the material up and followed a modified block schedule for the two weeks preceding the test date. The students completed the modules in morning and afternoon sessions.

“The schools involved in this pilot did a great job implementing the Jumpstart subject area reviews into the school’s master schedule so their juniors could complete this program within 2-4 weeks before test day as prescribed,” said Sha Walker, co-founder and CEO of Jumpstart Test Prep.

Brumfield had positive remarks about Enterprise students’ improvement.

“We were happy with what we did see,” Brumfield said.

Brumfield said the block schedule didn’t fit their students well and that when the program is used in the future all of their juniors will be enrolled in the school’s ACT preparation class.

“They didn’t like it,” Brumfield said. “We had to do a block schedule, and they’re not used to that. It was a learning experience for us and them.”

One change Brumfield would like to see is how often students saw the material.

“It would be used in the classroom on a daily,” Brumfield said.

After completing the Jumpstart ACT program, changes will be made to better fit the students at Enterprise so that more progress can be made.

“They work hard and we’re always proud of them,” Brumfield said. “They’ll take it again and get better.”
