Lake dominates Loyd Star

LAKE – The Lake Hornets dominated the Loyd Star Hornets to claim a 49-8 victory Friday night in high school football action. Lake improves to 4-0 on the season, as Loyd Star falls to 1-3.

Freshman running back Zac Arnold scored Loyd Star’s only touchdown in the second quarter on a 25-yard sprint to paydirt with 2:42 remaining. The Lincoln County-based Hornets were successful on the two-point conversion as Seth Farmer threw a pass to Arnold.

Loyd Star junior running back Peyton Flowers was the offensive leader with four rushes for 79 yards. Konner Allen contributed 36 yards on six carries.

Farmer, completed two-of-10 passes for nine yards and two interceptions. Zac Arnold caught one pass for five yards. Brent Calcote had one reception for four yards.

On defense, Flowers led Loyd Star with nine tackles and two assists. Dustin Hart and Ryan Nevels provided five stops apiece. Farmer and Nevels both intercepted a pass.

Loyd Star has an open date this week to nurse the wounded. The Hornets return to action Sept. 27, when they entertain the North Forrest Eagles on William E. “Sambo” Smith Field.
