Lady Bears crush Amite County

The West Lincoln Lady Bears celebrated Senior Night with a 13-1 victory over the Amite County Lady Trojans Monday in Region 7-2A slowpitch softball action.

“It was really good to get another district win,” said West Lincoln coach Andrew Redd. “I was very pleased with the girls’ efforts and proud for my seniors to get the win.”

Friends and family members gathered to recognize their seniors: Heather Moak, Bentley Sills, Destiny Allen and Karley Smith, as each received showers of gifts and hugs.

West Lincoln was originally scheduled to play a varsity doubleheader Monday, but a rain-soaked field cancelled the Puckett game. That game has been reschedule as doubleheader at Puckett, Tuesday, starting at 6 and 7:30 p.m.

The Lady Bears (15-5-1, 3-0) will take the rest of the week off to concentrate on their nine weeks’ test, before returning to action Tuesday for a huge district test at Puckett.

West Lincoln 13, Amite County 1 

The West Lincoln Lady Bears continued their hot hitting streak Monday night as they overpowered the Lady Trojans 13-1 in three innings of work before the heavy downpour set in. The Lady Bears out hit Amite County 12-3.

Heather Moak was the winning pitcher for West Lincoln with no strikeouts and no walks.

Tiana Ellis suffered the loss for Amite County with no strikeouts and three walks.

Sophomore shortstop Layton Sills provided the offensive spark to lead the Lady Bears with two doubles. Senior first baseman Bentley Sills fueled the flames with a double and a single. Micah Redd and Malori Hall contributed a pair of singles. Alli Mullins ripped a triple. Destiny Allen had a double. Hitting safely were Karley Smith and Hanna Moak.

Fredricka Smith was the top offensive slugger at the plate for the Lady Trojans with a double and a single. Destiny Williams hit a single.

After the heavy rain, West Lincoln’s girls and coaches worked hard to get the field ready for another game but could not get the infield dry enough to play safely.
