Delaughter fans Bogue Chitto

Loyd Star senior pitcher Brooke Delaughter hurled a 1-hitterThursday afternoon as the host Lady Hornets shut out the BogueChitto Lady Cats 9-0 in non-division fastpitch softballaction.

Delaughter, who signed with Co-Lin, had 9 strikeouts and 1 walk inthe win.

Loyd Star (17-7) travels to Brookhaven and Bogue Chitto (13-8) isat Franklin County tonight for two games, beginning with the juniorvarsity at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity at 6. Jan Delaughtercoaches the Jackets.

Following 2 scoreless innings, Loyd Star exploded for 3 runs in thebottom of the third then added 2 runs in the fourth to push itslead to 5-0.

Sarah Falvey led the Hornets with a 3RBI double. Delaughter doubledand singled with a RBI. Singling were Carrie Moak, Leah Britt andHannah Smith.

For the Cats, Alexis Givens singled. Rheagan Welch absorbed theloss with 3 strikeouts and 2 walks.

“We made too may youthful mistakes tonight,” said Bogue Chitto headcoach Scott Leggett. “You can’t come out against a team like LoydStar where you struggle to score runs and make that many mistakes.Brooke pitched a great game and we just didn’t hit the ball verywell.”

Loyd Star committed 5 errors and Bogue Chitto made 4.

Bogue Chitto will face Edinburg in the opening round of theplayoffs.
