Bogue Chitto demolishes St. Aloysius

VICKSBURG – The Bogue Chitto Bobcats and Lady Bobcats were victorious Friday night as they demolished the St. Aloysius Flashes in Region 7-1A basketball action.

In the girls’ contest, the Lady Cats roared past the Lady Flashes 74-57.

In boys’ action, the Bobcats are riding a two-game winning streak after thumping the Flashes 99-77.

Bogue Chitto will return to action Tuesday on the road for another huge region test as they prepare to visit Utica to battle the Hinds AHS Bulldogs for three games. The junior varsity girls will start the action at 5 p.m. The varsity games are set to begin at 6 and 7:30 p.m.

Bogue Chitto 74, St. Aloysius 57 

The Lady Cats (16-5, 4-2) came out strong in the first quarter and quickly set the tone of the contest after securing 26-13 lead.

In the second quarter, BC’s offense continued to roll, and they took a 45-29 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Lady Flashes fought hard to rally, but the Lady Cats managed to outscore St. Aloysius 29-27 to preserve the victory.

Sophomore forward Christian Black provided the offensive charge to lead the Lady Cats with a game-high double-double of 30 points and 12 rebounds. Karlie Williams continued the onslaught with 16 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Zariah Matthews netted 11 points, while helping out as the ball handler with eight assists and five steals. Lauren McCaffrey was the leader on the boards with 14 rebounds.

“We played very good offensively,” said BC coach Christi Terrell. “Defensively, we have to a better job moving faster so we don’t give up easy shots to the opposing team. Overall, I am proud of the girls for earning this big district win on the road.”

Grace Upshaw was the top scorer for the Lady Flashes with a team-high 19 points. Michelle Herrington contributed 12 points.

Bogue Chitto 99, St. Aloysius 77 

The Bobcats (5-15, 3-3) torched the Flashes of St. Aloysius to take a 21-8 early lead and rolled to a 40-24 lead at halftime.

In the second half, BC clearly overpowered the Flashes with their athleticism as the Bobcats’ offense bombarded St. Aloysius 59-53.

Damien Terrell sparked the Bobcats with a game-high double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead five players in double figures. Jeremiah Perkins fueled the flames with 21. Senior forward Dennis Rogers pumped in 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Brock Roberts chipped in 15 points and had nine rebounds. Jeremy Blackwell added 12 and gathered eight boards.

“This was a good win for us,” said BC coach Mark Pitt. “The guys came out strong in the first quarter and continued to play hard throughout the game. Overall, I was pleased to get the win. It was a great team effort.”

Three players scored in double figures for the Flashes as Ben Welp led the pace with 19 points. Matthew Foley contributed 16 and Charles Pendleton had 13 points.
