Friends and family will celebrate the life of Stanley Carson Calcote of Caseyville at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, at New Hope United Methodist Church with burial in the New Hope Cemetery.

Visitation is Friday, Feb. 21, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Riverwood Family Funeral Service and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at New Hope United Methodist Church.

Mr. Calcote died peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 19, at his home surrounded by family. Having battled cancer for two years, Stanley had prepared for his journey by placing all his trust and future in the hands of The Father and Savior Jesus Christ. As a result of God graciously giving him those two years, he was also able to prepare his family for his journey home. As Stanley breathed his last breath, the family joined hands to pray, praise and thank God for his home going.

Stanley, age 64, was born on Jan. 29, 1950, to Fred and Winnie Calcote. As one of eight children he learned the necessity of hard work on a farm. He attended Loyd Star School where he graduated in 1968 as Valedictorian. He was a member of the Loyd Star 1968 State Championship basketball team. He graduated from Copiah-Lincoln and the University of Southern Mississippi with a B.S. in Chemistry.

After coaching and teaching for two years, he began a career with Magnetek where he worked as a supervisor for 23 years. He then purchased and operated Calcote’s Grocery at Caseyville for 10 years. Being an individual who loved farming, Mr. Calcote also owned and operated his cattle farm producing registered beefmaster cattle.

After selling the store, he operated Calcote’s Gravel Service for five years.

During his life he treasured his family both immediate and extended. Up until 10 days before his death, he greatly enjoyed weekly gatherings with his siblings when they would always discuss God’s greatness, love, mercy and grace, concluding their fellowship with prayer.

Stanley and his family praised God for His love that was revealed through the love and support of family and friends during the past two years, allowing Stanley during his last hours to tell his family that he was going to “The Father” because of his faith in his Savior Jesus Christ.

Stanley was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church where he served his Lord in various capacities: Sunday School teacher, foard chairman, Finance Committee chairman and parish-staff chairman.

He was preceded in death by father, Fred Calcote Sr.; mother, Winnie Calcote; brothers, Dale Calcote and Kent Calcote.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 42 years, Ruth Magee Calcote; daughters, Charis Shoemaker and husband Steve and Eron Sellers and husband Jonathan; brothers, Fred E Calcote Jr. and wife Betty and Calvin Calcote and wife Shirley; sisters, Mary Ellen Kimble, Evelyn Case and husband Charlie, and Carolyn Smith and husband Ronny; six grandchildren, Peyton Case, Alex Shoemaker, Kayla Shoemaker, Courtlin Sellers, Avery Sellers and Carson Sellers; brother-in-law Marion “Toad” Smith; sister-in-law Becky Magee Smith and husband Bill and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be his nephews.
