Funeral services for George Byron Garrett Jr. of Silver Creek are 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, at Wilson Funeral home with burial in the Monticello United Methodist Church Cemetery. Wilson Funeral Home of Monticello is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation was Saturday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Garrett, 86, died Friday, March 7, 2014, at his residence. He was born in Lawrence County.

His hobbies were hunting and fishing and being with his family. He served in the United States Air Force during the Berlin Airlift, which saved hundreds of thousands of lives. He found the most pleasure in a hard day’s work. He also enjoyed gardening, football and was an avid New Orleans Saints fan.

Preceding him in death were his father, George Byron Garrett; his mother, Ruby Little Garret; and two brothers, Jessie Willard Garrett and Joseph E. Garrett.

Survivors are his wife of 64 years, Margaret Davis Garrett of Silver Creek; sons Phillip Garrett of Mobile, Steve Garrett of Silver Creek and Chuck Garrett of Monticello; daughters, Lu Ann Garrett Hutchinson of Silver Creek, Susie Garret of Bay St. Louis and Julie Garrett Barnes of Silver Creek. He is also survived by a sister, Mattie Florence “Punch” Smith of Brookhaven; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
