Funeral services for Roger Smith of Brookhaven are 2 p.m. on Friday, March 21, 2014, at New Prospect Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Riverwood Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Thursday, March 20, 2014, from 5 until 9 p.m. at Riverwood Family Funeral Service.

Mr. Smith, 83, died March 18, 2014, at his residence. He was born on Jan. 2, 1931, to Willis “Shine” Smith Jr. and Maude Fauver Smith.

He worked in Construction as a Road Builder and retired CEO of Kling Bros. Construction Company. He was also a member of the Road Builders Association. He was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church and served in the Army during the Korean War where he was awarded the Purple Heart.

Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Joseph “Joey” C. Smith; brother, Ramsey Smith; granddaughter, Rebecca Ann Whittington.

Survivors are his wife, Loretta Nix Smith; son, Roger Dale Smith of Brookhaven; daughters, Karen Howell and husband, Hank, of Brookhaven, Kathy Whittington and husband, Jimmie, of Smithdale, Lori Wright and husband, Felton “Pete” of Brookhaven; brother, Richard Carrol Smith of Brookhaven; sister, Dorothy Dale Sutton of Brookhaven; eight grandchildren; 12 step grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family members and friends.
