Drug charge nets 24-year sentence

A Lincoln County man was sentenced to 24 years in prison Mondayafter being convicted on drug charges last week in circuitcourt.
In a one-day trial Friday, the jury needed only 20 minutes toconvict Andre F. Lenoir Jr., 20, formerly of Greenville, ofpossession of at least 4.4 grams of cocaine with intent todistribute.
“The jury made their decision based on the evidence,” saidAssistant District Attorney Diane Jones.
Lenoir was arrested after fleeing from a Lincoln CountySheriff’s Department traffic checkpoint on South First Street inthe early morning hours of Oct. 9, 1999. The drugs were foundfollowing a chase through the city on the rainy night.
Lenoir was sentenced early to serve 22 years of a 25-yearsentence on cocaine charges in Pike County. Lenoir’s Lincoln Countysentence was to run consecutive to the Pike County sentence for atotal of 46 years.
